'As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.'
1 Samuel 17:48-49
It was hot, so hot. The King had just put his own heavy armor onto the little boy's body, but it was to cumbersome and he couldn't even walk. He took it off. He didn't need it. His Lord was with him. He took one smooth, perfect stone from the pouch on his side and placed it in his sling. He pulled it back with practiced ease and let it fly...right into the forehead of the big Goliath standing in front of him. He let out a pent-up breath and ran to the giant's side. The Lord had done it. He had once again saved His people and this time He used a young shepherd boy named David.
What a story for the underdog! God used the most unlikely person to achieve His plan with His people. He's good at doing that, using the least likely of us to do His kingdom work here on earth. If you're like me, you feel like part of the unlikely group rather than the equipped one. I look out at the world around me and I see one giant after another. These giants come in all shapes and forms, each one is different for each of us. Some are big, others are small, but none are insignificant in our Father's eyes.
He has equipped each one of us to face our own giants. According to the Word, we have everything we need for life and godliness. He has promised to always be with us, to never forsake us, so why should we be afraid of what this world can throw at us? We can stand tall with our stones and slings, ready for battle at all times. I challenge you to face your giant today. Don't cower in fear, but take advantage of the power He has given you and fight for your life. You will be victorious in Jesus' name.
