Thankful Thursday...Aha Moment

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."  John 15:5

I caught the tail-end of Charles Stanley's broadcast this morning and he was in John 15 where Jesus is talking about the vine and the branches.  Dr. Stanley said something so profound to me I had to repeat it.  It was one of those light-come-on moments.  The kind where something clicks and speaks to you right where you are.
In the passage, Jesus (God) is the vine and we (Believers) are the branches.  The branches exist for no other reason, but to do the bidding of the vine.  The branches have no life outside of the vine.  If the branch is thirsty, it is the vine whose roots reach into the ground and give it water.  The branch doesn't worry if it is cold outside or how many grapes it needs to grow.  The vine takes care of the harvest and the vine weathers the cold, the branch exists for the sole purpose of bearing the fruit which the vine produces.
When we abide in the vine (Jesus), we can weather the storms life throws our way because we are grafted to the vine.  The wind may blow, but we will remain attached to the vine because its roots are deep and strong.  I know this in my head, but for some reason today this hit my heart.  Thank You Father that your Word is alive and active in our lives.

I know this isn't exactly the type of vine/branch Jesus was describing in John 15,
but what a representation of strength a root can possess and how it can
sustain it's branches...right through rocks!  God is awesome :)

This is one of my favorite passages in Scripture. I always think of on old, old song done by Steven Curtis Chapman. It's called "Show Yourselves to Be" on the For the Sake of the Call cd. Really good stuff.

I love this truth, Allison. As a branch, we can do nothing on our own. But when we are attached to the VINE, we can do all things! It's not our strength, but His.
