He Loves me...He loves me not?

He loves me...He loves me not...He loves me...He loves me not...  Remember that from childhood?  You'd pick a flower of some kind (mine were those yellow weed things that grow when the grass gets to tall--what are they?  Dandelions?  Who knows...) and you'd pick the petals off one by one as you chanted?  And oh how you'd try to get it timed right so that the last petal to fall would be on 'he loves me'.

I've felt that way in my relationship with my Heavenly Father.  Sure I know the bible says He loves me and the song does too (Yes, Jesus loves me...), but sometimes I just don't FEEL it in my heart of hearts.  Anyone else feel that way or is it just me?  It is a feeling of despair, hopelessness, and just oppression.  It's a smothering sensation that you just want to get away from.  It brings on fear, doubt, anxiety, and a whole host of other things.

Which brings me to my next question-what do you do when you wonder if He loves you?  When you just want to get that 'feeling' of love back into your mind.  Where do you turn?  There is one thing that He has given us in these times of utter despair-His Word.  In numerous places you can find promises He has made to us of His unending, everlasting, unconditional love.  But until you pick up the book and actually read it you will not reap the benefits of what is inside of it.  Not only picking it up and reading the words, but choosing to believe what has been breathed there by His very breath.

Yes!  That is it!  I must choose to believe the truths that He has spoken about me.  I am His.  He loves me.  He will never leave or forsake me.  He has given me everything I need for life and godliness.  I am holy.  I am righteous.  I am forgiven.  I have no need to fear.  I am more than a conqueror.  I am His and He is mine.  He LOVES me...

'May your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope in you'.  Psalm 33:22

I must "choose" to believe the truths. Amen. Sometimes that is hard when we don't "feel" it, but the feelings usually come back in time if we can direct our mind to his truths. Thanks for sharing.

We must believe His truths. We are His, we are loved, we are special. Thank you for sharing this. Great post!

When I realize that there is nothing that I can do to earn His love and that there is nothing I can do wrong to lose it that's when I settle the matter in my heart that He does indeed love me... despite me. Though I ask the same questions I am always left with one final question... If I can't believe that He loves me then what Hope do I really have? Great post!

I wrote a blog about how our idea of marriage is connected to our idea of what a relationship with the Father should look like. Because He writes so often referring to us as His bride, when I read the above, I thought immediatley of marriage. The relationship takes a little work sometimes. I think that's true for both marriage and our relationship with Jesus.

This is so good, I think Satan tries to hold us down and make us believe God couldn't really love us when we are so bad but He does!!! We have to break through those lies in tot he truth that is right infront of us God's love is never ending and it's for all of us! thank you for this have a great full of God's love day!

I want the feelings, but I live in the knowledge. You're right. It's a choice. Sometimes God graciously grants the feelings, but more often his words of truth and examples of his love ring through my mind.

Yep, you are right. It's a choice to focus on His truths and I am so thankful God gave us His Word so that we can constantly go back to it and remind ourselves. We so easily forget.

Yes, I feel insecure sometimes about whether or not God really loves me. It is so amazing to think that the God of the Universe actually wants us to desire Him! I have written down those promise verses in my journal so I can re-read and re-memorize when I feel that way! Love the blog today!! Really blessed me!

Wonderfully transparent post Allison. We all suffer those moments of question and doubt, but you're right that we can always take refuge in His Word and be bolstered by the promises therein. :-)

Have a Blessed Day!

Allison, I thought it was cute how you started this post out... and how you ended it is how I'd like to grow in experience... to feel God's love more in my heart, so that I can choose it in my head on days that it's hard to feel it.
